When you are faithful to the Lord, he will provide! Israel has gone the wrong way, and God has raised the prophet Elijah to speak against the Northern Kingdom. But he was required to take a stand, but God was there. Lessons From Following The Voice Of God 1 Kings 17:1-3 1. Stand For The Truth Already, the drought had lain on the land for some six months; now, the reason for it all was to be revealed to Israel’s apostate leadership. The message was clear: Israel had broken the pledge of its covenantal relationship with God. Therefore, God was demonstrating his concern for both his people’s infidelity and their folly in trusting in false fertility gods like Baal. No rain! There would not even be dew until God’s authentic messenger would give the word! Unknown to Ahab, Elijah had agonized over the sins of his people and had prayed to the Lord for corrective measures to be levied on his people. Accordingly, Elijah was God’s logical choice. As God’s messenger, Elijah announced God’s judgment against disobedient Israel. God would withhold rain for three and a half years. This judgment method also mocked Baal because Baal worshipers believed he controlled the weather and was responsible for abundant crops. When you start standing for the truth in your own personal life, the devil will fight you hard. The devil will make it easy to do the wrong things. The devil will do everything he can to take the church down because the church is the one in our culture who is left to stand for the truth. 1 Kings 17:4-6 2. God Provides For Those Who Are Faithful God provided for Elijah at the Kerith Ravine because Elijah had stood with God against the people’s rebellion. When we attend to God’s purposes, he will attend to our needs. Regardless of harsh physical circumstances, the Lord provides for the prophet. The drought had begun, but Elijah had resources because his God controlled all natural resources. God directs him to a brook with water where ravens will feed him. Also, God has protected Elijah by taking him out of Ahab’s reach. Nothing he needs has been withheld, a point that must be recalled for future reference. Many of you are wondering why God may not have provided for you, but my question today is, are you faithful to what he has called you to do? Blessing does not come without obedience, and obedience is not easy. 1 Kings 17:7 3. God’s Word Will Come To Pass When the brook dried up, God directed Elijah to go to a territory occupied by Baal worshipers. There, God would provide for Elijah through a poor widow. The experience further strengthened Elijah’s confidence in God’s care and guidance. Sometimes, great difficulty occurs even though we are living in God’s plan. He uses such experiences to build our faith and do things beyond what we could have expected. No rainfall: this represents an impending agricultural disaster for the already semiarid land of the Levant. Two years of drought would bring famine to the region and often the need to migrate away from the affected territory. Elijah himself would soon be subject to this very same fate. In this world we live in, we must know that no matter all the mess we are going through, God’s word will come to pass. We win in the end. God was using this discomfort to move Elijah to the next thing, and sometimes, God makes us uncomfortable to get us moving. All of God’s promises are yes and amen. All that God has promised you will come to pass. You just have to have faith to stand on those promises. What are our transformational moments? Are you standing on the truth or conforming to our world? Are you faithful to what the Lord asks of you? Are you standing on His promises today?
