The Holy Spirit 1. The Great Commision Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,* baptizing them in the name of the Father andthe Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Mark 16:15-20 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will becondemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demonsin my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on thesick, and they will be healed.” When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs. Luke 24:35-49 Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be withyou,” he said. But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at myhands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not aghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do. As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you haveanything here to eat?”They gave him a piece of broiled fish, eand he ate it as they watched. Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in thelaw of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would sufferand die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would beproclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There isforgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ You are witnesses of all these things. “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city untilthe Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” John 20:19-23 That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said. As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord! Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sendingyou.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” What is baptism of the Holy Spirit While water baptism confirms our faith in Christ, the baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers us for the life and ministry that God calls us to. Just like baptism washes us of our sins, the Holy Ghost sanctifies, or purifies, us. It causes us to change. 2. Knowing the Holy Spirit James 4:8 TPT Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you. But make sure you cleanse your life, you sinners, and keep your heart pure and stop doubting. Daily encounters with the God in your secret place helps daily prepare you for the great commission. 3. Repent and Seek the Lord It is important to be free from sin when operating in the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NLT Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 4. Evidence of Baptism of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:2-4 NLT Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,* as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. We should not judge someone’s level of spirituality by how the react/don't react to a baptism of the Holy spirit. The official AG stance on baptism of the Holy Spirit is the initial physical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. What are our transformational moments? Are you taking every opportunity to share the Gospel? Are you taking the time to know God's voice? Do you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
