References in the New Testament Matthew 26:30                    Ephesians 5:19  Mark 14:26                        Colossians 3:16  Acts 16:25                         James 5:13 1 Corinthians 14:26 It doesn’t say we HAVE to sing hymns. Hymns are just what songs were called in biblical times.  Hymns are a preference. We are a modern church so we sing modern songs. From time to time we do add a hymn into the setlist.  Many of the older hymns were set to bar tunes that people were familiar with because they didn’t have radio. They just changed the lyrics for church.  2. Is it a sin to listen to songs they play on the radio and sing them in church? If we are supposed to be apart from the World? “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬ Worship music of course it’s not a sin. It is on the radio to help spread the gospel. We play some radio songs here as well Secular music- definitely not in church Listen at your own discretion, you’re not reporting back to your pastors about your weekly playlist, pray about it. Some of you might not like the answer you get.  Take into consideration what you’re listening to and how it can negatively affect you. If all you’re listening to during the week is secular music and a whopping 25-30 min on a Sunday. How do you think that will affect your day-to-day life? And to the other side of it there’s some worship songs we don’t play in church because it’s more of a personal worship song and not necessarily congregational. 3. Why do I need to sing to show my love for Jesus? It’s biblical but also not the only thing you can do to show your love for Jesus, Psalms gives us plenty of examples of ways we can show or love for Jesus 34:1 Speaking, 27:6 shouting, 47:6 singing 95:6 Bowing/kneeling, 149:3 dancing 33:2 Playing instruments, 47:1 clapping, 63:4 lifting hands Don’t let the rocks cry out for you, all of creation was created to worship God (So Will I) 4. Why do people raise hands when they worship? It seems for show.  A way to praise the Lord Sign of surrender Just like a child when they’re tired and want to be lifted up they raise their hands to be carried.  Raising your hands is not a requirement but something breaks off of you when you step out of your comfort zone to worship the Lord Hands out-It’s a way to receive  Because He is worthy  Woman in end of Luke 7- she didn't care about being judged for who she was or what she had done, her main focus was to worship Jesus It is what we were created to do. I can guarantee everyone has FOUGHT the urge to raise your hands in worship, whether you are worried about what your neighbor thinks, worrying about looking like you’re showing off. Those are lies from the enemy to convince you not to do it. To keep you in bondage, so you don't feel freedom, so you can't receive the fullness of God.
