3 Elements of The Call Of Moses
• Series: Exodus
Even though Moses had received the highest level of education in Pharaoh’s royal household, it was not enough to equip him for God’s work. He needed the time alone with God and forty difficult years of caring for sheep in the desert to prepare him for his future task: to shepherd (i.e., lead and care for) Israel through the desert. Exodus 3:1-12 3 Elements of The Call Of Moses 1. Motive Moses had serious doubts about his qualifications. We can be a lot like Moses when God puts a call on our lives; we get timid and scared, and we feel like we are not qualified. It’s in those moments that God is preparing us for our calling. Moses was motivated by his experience with the voice of God in the burning bush. Many people who make the best minister are not motivated by the title. They are motivated by the call of God. I did not want this life, but the call of God was too strong. You can run from the call of your life, but you will never have the motivation you need until you submit to the specific call God has on your life. We are not all called to be vocational ministers, but we are all called to be full-time ministers. 2. Purpose Thereby, Moses was cautioned not to misconstrue any rejection he received as a sign that God had not called or was not with him—all to no avail, for Moses later raised those very complaints. The burning bush was not consumed; that was the miracle. Notice how the miracle is used here to accredit God’s message (or messenger) as it typically is in Scripture. Miracles are not circus side shows intended to entertain; they accredit the Word of God given to his special messengers. Moses’ purpose was to free his people. He did not feel called to do so but felt compelled to do it because he did not want the suffering to continue. This was true for me. I did not want to be like all the other ministers I knew, and God used that unique desire in my heart to build the church we all know and love. We all have a purpose in this body. This body will suffer until we walk in that purpose. Exodus 3:16-17 3. Plan God assigned Moses to report on his theophany to the Israelite leaders so they could share with him the knowledge that the God of their ancestors would help them out of their suffering as well as an understanding of what a fantastic future God had planned for them in the land he promised centuries before Abraham. God gave him the plan, and I still do not think Moses was convinced he could do it. You are sitting in a God-sized dream that God gave me, and I did not think it was possible. It wasn’t possible for me, but it is possible with God. Those dreams that God has put on your heart. He wants to see them come true in your lifetime, so do you have the faith to take the first step? What are our transformational moments? What is your motivation in life? What purpose has God given you? Are you ready to see the mighty move of God in your visions and plans he has placed on your heart?
