3 Excuses of Moses
• Series: Exodus
How often do we waste time telling God what he can’t do? Moses was unwilling to accept God’s calling and made excuses. How often do we make excuses because we don’t feel qualified? 3 Excuses of Moses Exodus 4:1 1. He Lacked Confidence Moses was struggling to understand that God makes converts. His responsibility was to trust God and deliver the message. Objection 3: “What if they do not believe me?” (4:1). So, God gave Moses three signs: a. staff became a snake (4:2-5); b. his hand became leprous (vv. 6-7); c. The Nile turned into blood (v. 9). God promised miracles, and Moses was still unsure if he could not get his confidence up to believe he could do it. How often have you told God what he could not do through you? Stop telling God what he cannot accomplish through you. We serve a big God who can take us from obscurity and make us a great nation’s leader. Exodus 4:10-12 2. Not A Great Speaker The gifts of speech, sight, and hearing are from the same Lord who was sending this hesitant leader. Objection 4: “I don’t speak well” (4:10). The Lord’s response is, “I will teach you what to say” (4:12). Moreover, God promises to send Aaron. Stop telling God what you cannot do and start walking in your calling and the authority he has given you! Exodus 4:13-17 3. Lack of Commitment Yes, God was angry with Moses because he was trying to pass the responsibility to someone else. Moses had a price to pay for his intransigence: Aaron would receive the honor of leading the priesthood There is a risk in declining the call of God; it may be a forfeiture of divine blessing even though there is grace and mercy for the obstinate At times we can be just like Moses especially when God calls, we never know when God will use us, and we pass up the opportunity to reach someone who does not know Jesus. What would this world be like if I had said no? What blessing are you missing out on because you are telling God no? When will you stop making excuses and start walking in His blessings. What are our transformational moments? Do you need to start walking in the confidence of the Lord? What excuses are you making as to why God cannot use you? You ready to get to work?
