Warnings To Pharaoh
• Series: Exodus
Pharaoh’s persistent stubbornness and hardened stance played into the hands of God, who would display his great wonders before Pharaoh and the Israelites. The next plague, swarms of locusts, would further endanger the nation’s well-being, leading even Pharaoh to call it a “deadly plague” (v. 17). But before that, Moses pleads with Pharaoh. Warnings To Pharaoh Ex 10:3a 1. How Long Will You be Stubborn? The message began with a question: “How long will you refuse to humble yourself before the Lord?” His act of self-condemnation and abject humility in 9:27 was just that—an act. But here was the consummate question of all questions that God finally raised against all obstinate sinners: “How long?” Plague after plague and Pharaoh’s heart was still hardened and he would not listen and let the Israelites go. After each plague, Pharaoh would say Forgive me this one time, “ but he was not practicing biblical repentance. We can do the same thing, ask God to forgive us just once more, but when we commit the same sin repeatedly, we are not being sincere and not practicing biblical repentance. God seeks complete repentance from us, but oftentimes we repent up to the point of Pharaoh. We repent up to the point that our discomfort stops. Ex 10:3b 2. We Are Set Free To Serve Him! God used the plagues for Egypt and Israel so that one day they would tell their sons about their God. Later, he commanded the Israelites to teach their children the Lord’s words diligently. How you half-heartedly serve the Lord today will show your kids that God was not important enough to change your life, so why should he be a part of their life? In a church of changed people, we should have waiting lists for groups and serving. What are our transformational moments? Will you fully repent or repent until your discomfort stops? What example are you setting for the next generation? What’s your excuse not to serve?
