Esther - For Such A Time As This The Story: Chapter 3 Hamon Plots Against the Jews Chapter 4 Esther Agrees to Help the Jews When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:12-14 (NIV) Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:15-16 (NIV) The Application: Haman & Mordecai There was no good reason for Mordecai being punished. It all stemmed from Hamon’s vanity. He was angry and didn’t like Mordecai and what he stood for. Have you ever been hated simply because you are who you are? Sometimes we find ourselves in bad situations due to no fault of our own. Even the Bible tells us He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:45 (NIV) Yes, we are children of God, but that does not exempt us from trials and tribulations. We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days? Job 2:10 (NIV) Esther Have you tried to deny what God has called you to do? Mordecai told her that deliverance for the Jews would come from somewhere else if it wasn’t through her. God’s purpose will be fulfilled, but the question is, do you want to be a part of it or not? Esther chose not to run from her purpose, but to run to it. Pedigree does not equal purpose. Esther was an orphan who was made queen. What are we willing to do to fulfill God’s purpose? Esther’s actions saved future generations, what are we doing to impact the generations coming after us? What has God been preparing you for? What is your “for such a time as this” moment?
