Hunger

HUNGER  What is Hunger? There are 2 kinds of hunger:  Physical- from infancy our bodies signal us even when we need to eat. Babies will cry, our stomachs growl, some of us get weak, others get hangry. We are able to eat at any time of day. Have 4-5 snacks if you want, but we do what we can to avoid or get rid of our hunger. Spiritual: when you are HUNGRY, God fills you up. And when you are filled up, you are hungry for more of Him.  It’s actually the opposite of the physical world. When you take in Spirit food, you receive a supernatural hunger.  We understand this concept in the physical, but oftentimes we allow ourselves to take this path spiritually as well. We just want satisfaction. We eat when it’s “time” to eat. Like once a week on Sunday mornings. Or maybe even daily if we have some structured time set aside in the mornings or before bed. Is there more? Matthew 4:4 (TPT) He answered, “The Scriptures say: Bread alone will not satisfy, but true life is found in every word that constantly goes forth from God’s mouth.”  John 6:1-15 (TPT) After this Jesus went to the other side of the Lake of Tiberias, which is also known as Lake Galilee. And a massive crowd of people followed him everywhere. They were attracted by his miracles and the healings they watched him perform. Jesus went up the slope of a hill and sat down with his disciples. Now it was approaching the time of the Jewish celebration of Passover, and there were many pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem in the crowd. As Jesus sat down, he looked out and saw the massive crowd of people scrambling up the hill, for they wanted to be near him. So he turned to Philip and said, “Where will we buy enough food to feed all these people?” Now Jesus already knew what he was about to do, but he said this to stretch Philip’s faith. Philip answered, “Well, I suppose if we were to give everyone only a snack, it would cost thousands of dollars to buy enough food!” But just then, Andrew, Peter’s brother, spoke up and said, “Look! Here’s a young person with five barley loaves and two small fish . . . but how far would that go with this huge crowd?” “Have everyone sit down,” Jesus said to his disciples. So on the vast grassy slope, more than five thousand hungry people sat down. Jesus then took the barley loaves and the fish and gave thanks to God. He then gave it to the disciples to distribute to the people. Miraculously, the food multiplied, with everyone eating as much as they wanted! When everyone was satisfied, Jesus told his disciples, “Now go back and gather up the pieces left over so that nothing will be wasted.” The disciples filled up twelve baskets of fragments, a basket of leftovers for each disciple. All the people were astounded as they saw with their own eyes the incredible miracle Jesus had performed! They began to say among themselves, “He really is the One—the true prophet we’ve been expecting!” So Jesus, knowing that they were about to take him and make him their king by force, quickly left and went up the mountainside alone. We are not just physical bodies, but with a soul and a spirit. We were created in the image of God. So just like when we need to feed our physical selves to live we must do the same for our spiritual selves. And wouldn’t you agree that our souls are a little bit more important since that goes on to live eternally? Ways to stir your hunger  Psalm 77:4-6 (TPT) I can’t get a wink of sleep until you come and comfort me. Now I’m too burdened to even pray! My mind wandered, thinking of days gone by— the years long since passed. Then I remembered the worship songs I used to sing in the night seasons, and my heart began to fill again with thoughts of you. So my spirit went out once more in search of you.  1. Reading/studying the word 1 Peter 2:2-3 (TPT) In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life —especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of Yahweh and have experienced his kindness. The Bible is for everyone, just like the scripture says it has sections for the baby christians and meaty bits for the more mature.  2. Worship For those that love worship, that excitement you feel rises up inside you when you hear the welcome video start, you can have that EVERYDAY. THAT’S HUNGER. When you’re excited to dive in deeper for the lord and you want more and more and nothing will get in your way until you have more. What now? Matthew 5:6 (TPT) “How enriched you are when you crave righteousness! For you will be satisfied." When we seek out the Lord, when we spend time with him, it's never a bad time. There is nothing risky about spending time with the lord. Like the scripture says we WILL be satisfied. Just like we have more food than ever before, we have more Spiritual options than ever before, except we are more Spiritually deprived than ever before… because we expect others to feed us.  Jesus will always satisfy you but we think it's boring sometimes. God’s not boring, you are!
