The Power of Repentance

 • Series: Misc 2024

The power of repentance Repent; feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin Repentance is not a one time thing you do right before you get baptized.  Repentance is something we should do often. We sin everyday sometimes we sin because of ignorance, sometimes because of our weaknesses, and sometimes because of willful disobedience. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 1. Confession sets us free   In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.  Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:11-14 We all need to repent. We must admit to ourselves that we have sinned. If we do not admit this, we cannot repent with sincerity  The enemy tries to remind us of our sin so we become so ashamed of it we don't want to confess our sin. Confession relieves a heavy burden. U Our sin holds us back but repentance makes it possible for us to grow and develop spiritually again. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  Ephesians 4:31-32 LIST OF SINS WE (UNKNOWINGLY) COMMIT DAILY Holding grudges Putting your desires first (before God) Feeling annoyed over the success of others Reacting out of the hurt Skimping on the work you are being paid to do Putting your full attention and trust in the “things” of the world, like money, or a celebrity Gossiping 2. Forgiving others is also repentance  Forgiveness is hard for everyone. Because we all feel like we deserve justice  Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT) Forgiveness is not an option for us as Christians. If we are called to be like Jesus, the scriptures are clear on forgiveness. Dont under estimate the power of you forgiveness towards someone. Once we off that grace/forgiveness to others it opens the door for them to realize they can do the same for someone else “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15 Choosing to not forgive others or yourself creates deep-rooted bitterness. This bitterness will prohibit you from experiencing the abundant and effective Spirit-filled life the Lord has called you to. When you have unforgiveness manifesting in your heart, it is not uncommon to feel like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling. This is because your choice to harbor unforgiveness goes against the Lord’s perfect design. You are sinning against the offender, yourself, and God by harboring unforgiveness in your heart. What does this mean for us? 1) What sins do you need to repent for today?
